Monarch Pass Epic Ride July 29-30, 2008
View at the top of Monarch Crest bike trail.
Fooses Trail...steep!!!
Chris leading off on the trail after the rest break.
Two riders on the Monarch Crest Trail.
Somewhere in the distance are Chris, Micheal, and Leo riding to the summit.
A close up showing Micheal in the lead.
Chris is being followed by Micheal on this fast descent.
Chris is saying "I need oxygen!" as he pushes his bike up the mountain.
Micheal is looking strong on this hill climb.
New team member (Peter) of Team Wannabe is a downhill speedy demon, but is looking strong climbing this first hill climb.
Leo is flying down the trail and using no brakes.
Chris recovered from the climb and is giving chase on the descent.
Micheal is showing off his bike handling skill by leaning his bike to gain more speed on the descent.
Look at how fast Micheal is riding. Even at ISO-800 with an f-12.5 and 1/400 shutter speed, he is still but a blur...eventhough he is riding a Superlight.
Chris and Leo after the epic ride. I wonder how Chris is feeling.
Apparently, Chris is feeling good and is ready to go for another 40 mile bike ride.
A search and rescue occur in the middle of our bike ride. Peter is coordinating and relaying information to 911 operator, helicopter pilot, and first responders. A 14 year boy was seriously hurt in an ATB accident.
Waiting for help to arrive...
Ambulance arrived just in time.
Helicopter arrived minutes later thanks to Chris's GPS coordinates provided to the pilot.
Ambulance is coming out with the 14-year old boy.
The kid was taken off by helicopter to ER/Trauma.
We hoped he made it. As it turned out, the young boy called me up about eight months later to let me know he was doing well and has recovered to almost 100%.
